The Multinational Mission
Balancing Local Demands with Global Vision by C.K. Prahalad and Yves L. Doz
Competitive advantage is the end result of a series of actions, all of which are influenced byt he decision-making process. Top managment's work, therefore, is to ensure that the quality of the decision-making process is both carefully monitored and improved. Top managers must focus their energies and attention on issues like the following: How do middle- and upper-level managers within the organization perceive and analyze the economic, technological and political forces that shape the businesses we are involved in? How do I improve the strategic capability of my organization - it ability to conceive and execute a wide variety of strategies? In a nutshell, the authors' basic thesis is that strategy is concerned with action and atop management is concerned with managing the processes by which action, or the committment of resources, is taken in the organization.
